The Bottom Line

Finding the best car insurance companies in your area can be difficult, especially if you’re new to purchasing coverage for your vehicle. You will need to consider the coverage you want, how much you’ll pay, whether the company has good customer service, and more.

Fortunately, Erie car insurance reviews indicate that it is known for offering affordable rates and excellent customer service. With Erie, you can purchase standard car insurance coverage, and the company offers add-ons to customize your policy to meet your unique needs.

Erie offers generous discounts that may lower your monthly or annual car insurance rates, and the company scores highly for its collision repair claims process. Unfortunately, Erie car insurance is not available throughout the United States, and the company receives more than the average number of complaints for an insurance company of its size.

As you search for the right car insurance company, take your time and compare your Erie car insurance quote with quotes from other local insurance companies. Comparing auto insurance quotes is a good way to determine which company offers the coverage you need at a price that works with your budget.

Erie offers affordable car insurance coverage to people in 16 states in the U.S. With Erie, you can find the coverage you need on your vehicle, and you may find that the company offers affordable rates.

Erie has excellent claims handling ratings, and the company is rated well with A.M. Best and the Better Business Bureau. In addition, Erie offers add-on coverage options to help you customize your policy, discounts to save money on car insurance, and several perks and benefits that may set the company apart from other insurance companies in your area.

Is Erie Insurance Group a Good Choice?

Erie Insurance offers car insurance and other products in a few states in the U.S. With Erie car insurance, you’ll get affordable rates and multiple options to help you customize your policy. In addition, if you drive a new car, Erie has options for you to protect yourself if you’re in an accident and your vehicle is damaged.

Erie also gets excellent reviews for its customer service and claims handling processes. However, the company does receive more than the average number of complaints for an insurance company of its size. Still, Erie could be a helpful company to work with, depending on what you’re looking for.

If you’re searching for car insurance, you may want to get a quote with Erie to see how the company’s rates compare to other insurance companies in your area. Unfortunately, Erie only offers car insurance in the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

You can speak with an Erie Insurance representative to learn more about the company’s coverage options, your quote for coverage, and anything else you’re interested in.

What are the pros of an Erie car insurance policy?

If you purchase car insurance with Erie Insurance, you’ll get several benefits, including:

  • Excellent claims service
  • Affordable rates for good drivers
  • Special coverage perks and add-on options
  • A lock-in option for coverage rates

Erie Insurance has excellent ratings for its claims service. In particular, the company has the highest grade for claims service specific to collision repairs. In addition, Erie customers state that the company responds quickly to claims, pays out small claims within 48 hours, and is generally responsive if there’s an issue.

Erie offers affordable rates across the spectrum, but drivers with a clean driving record receive especially cheap car insurance coverage options. If you are an adult with a clean driving record and good credit, you may find Erie’s rates are quite competitive in your area.

Customers also benefit from the coverage perks and add-on options Erie offers. With Erie, you can purchase the company’s Auto Plus package, which offers benefits like waived deductibles and higher levels of coverage for specific claims. Additionally, Erie Insurance offers add-on coverages like rideshare insurance, new car replacement, and an Auto Security package to help you customize your policy to feel safe behind the wheel.

Lastly, Erie allows customers to lock in their auto insurance rates once they get a quote. With Erie’s rate lock program, you can lock your rates and keep them that way until you add or remove drivers from the policy. Locking your rate with Erie could help you save money on your car insurance premiums.

What are the cons of an Erie car insurance policy?

While Erie is an excellent auto insurance option for many, the company does have its downsides. Some of the most significant disadvantages to using Erie as your insurance company include:

  • Lack of availability in most states
  • A higher-than-average number of customer complaints

Erie auto insurance is only available in the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. If you do not live in one of these states, you’ll have to look elsewhere for car insurance coverage.

According to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, Erie receives more than the expected number of customer complaints for a company of its size. The company ranked high in auto insurance claims and shopping, but Erie customers complained about the company’s home and property insurance claims.

Ultimately, Erie is a good company to work with. You may find that the disadvantages of a policy are not significant enough to stop you from getting a quote and learning more about your coverage options. Remember that Erie is only one of many insurance companies available to you, so find and compare quotes from several before you make a final decision on coverage.

Erie Car Insurance Reviews

Erie has great ratings and reviews for its claims handling process. With Erie, you can take solace in the fact that the company handles its claims quickly and effectively. Erie also offers affordable car insurance rates, especially for people with clean driving records and good credit.

Erie has received more than the average number of complaints for a company of its size. Customers take issue with some of Erie’s customer service methods, but most of these issues pertain to other company insurance products.

Erie has an A+ (Superior) financial strength rating with A.M. Best, and the company has a stable outlook regarding future insurance endeavors. Erie also has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), though customers have rated it an average of 1.16 out of five stars. Most complaints concern Erie’s home insurance policies and specific claims.

Erie is a good insurance company with many options for its policyholders. However, finding and comparing Erie auto insurance rates with the rates of other companies is a good idea. Doing so allows you to find the coverage you want without overpaying.

Erie Insurance Group Rates

Car insurance costs vary for several reasons. There are many factors that affect car insurance rates. Your monthly or annual rates for coverage are likely based on a combination of the following factors:

  • Age
  • Gender
  • Marital status
  • Location
  • Credit score
  • Driving record
  • Car make and model
  • Coverage type

If you are in your mid-30s and have a clean driving record and good credit, you’ll often pay less for car insurance than a teen driver or someone who has an at-fault accident on their record. However, all insurance companies consider factors differently, which is why it’s so important to compare quotes for coverage.

You may find one company focusing more on your credit score than another. Because this factor is weighted differently between the two companies, your rates will vary from one to the other. As a result, you can avoid overpriced car insurance when you shop and compare car insurance quotes.

Car insurance rates with Erie are often competitive with other insurance companies. In addition, Erie offers the cheapest car insurance rates in certain scenarios.

Unlike some other insurance companies, Erie offers its policyholders many options for coverage and convenience. If you’re on the fence about Erie, explore some of the company’s coverage options to determine whether a policy with this company would meet your needs.

  • Diminishing deductible. Erie automatically reduces your car insurance deductible by $100 annually for every consecutive year you don’t file a claim. The diminishing deductible feature is good for up to $500 off your deductible altogether.

Erie’s special features are appealing to many customers. You can speak with an Erie auto insurance representative to learn more about any perks you’re especially interested in.

Best deals around

It's been nothing but a positive experience the nice thing about a small company is that the agents really get to know the customers on a personal level so they really meet your needs more efficiently any more quickly than these larger companies and their rates are the cheapest around we shopped around with all the other agencies and none of them came close to the deal we got with them

Erie is very deceptive. I had Erie insurance for almost 30 years I had myself, my wife, and my daughter on the policy. Over the years, they dropped my son for having a reckless driving ticket I didn’t have a problem with that they dropped my daughter while she had a learners permit for backing into a pole in a parking lot. There was about $1,500 in damage but the kicker was they had requested a copy of my youngest daughter's title. I told her to send it to them. She did not do it so they canceled my policy without letting me know. The right thing to do would have been to drop her like they did with my son and daughter. I made premium payments for 30 years and never made a claim. My wife had only one claim, and it was my daughter when she ran into the pole. When I contacted my agent his secretary said you might as well just get another policy because Erie probably won't reinstate your policy. I never priced other policies because I never needed to. But when I was forced to, I found several companies that gave me better rates. I gave 1 star only because the website won’t give you the opportunity to give a zero.

Handling claims

Easy to work with, hassle free and great customer service. Recently filed a claim due to a collision where the other driver hit my car. The other driver was not being cooperative and Erie took over so I did not have to be the middle man. This relieved a lot of stress. They were fairly quick at getting my deductible back from the other insurance company however the claims adjuster could have been more prompt at returning phone calls.

Horrible service

This company was completely unprofessional when I had an accident. I carry full coverage and they would not fix my car that had less than 1000 in damages after I had full coverage for over 4 years with them.

Great Service and Most Affordable

I purchased an auto policy about 15 years ago and have experienced nothing but great service. They were the best quote by far and I even referred my boyfriend who switched to Erie Insurance. I often check around for new quotes, especially when adding my kids when they were new drivers and they stayed most reasonable. My daughter had an accident and they took care of everything quickly. I would refer anyone to use Erie.

It was a pleasant enough experience. I was presented with different options to fit my needs regarding the amount of coverage I wanted and how I could pay my bill ( as far as monthly, yearly, or three times a year).
